Crying Out for Brian Murdock

stop the violence.jpgThe violence continues as Chicgo neighborhoods still battle the stronghold of gang recruitment, initiation, and affiliation. Fifteen year old Brian Murdock and his friend were shot to death last week, apparently threatened and intimidated before the incident occurred.

Did anyone see anything? No get away car? No foot chases? You mean children aren't safe at home, at school, or in their own neighborhood?  James Murdock, father of Brian Murdock, speaks: on Garrard McClendon Live at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Violence Begats Violence: Dr. Bell's Solutions

carl bell.jpgDr. Carl Bell and the Jennifer Hudson Family Tragedies

Everybody knows the symptoms, but what are the causes of violence in highly dense, urban communities. Dr. Carl Bell joins me in a discussion on Garrard McClendon Live.

Too many guns, irresponsible men, not enough good jobs, drug territory, gang land mentality? No, no, no...it's you and me. We're all responsible for nonsense infiltrating our neighborhoods. If you know of a solution, what have you done today to make your community better?

SUV and Child's Body Found

UPDATE from the Chicago Tribune:

Sources tell the Chicago Tribune that the police have told Jennifer Hudson and her family that the body found this morning in an SUV on Chicago's West Side is that of 7-year-old Julian King. Read more here.

A white SUV and a child's body found inside of the vehicle on 1313 S. Kolin. The story gets sadder and sadder everyday. Questions? Why was the SUV in Lawndale all weekend without anyone reporting the Suburban? (Some neighbors do tell CLTV the vehicle wasn't there until late last night or early this morning)  Are police looking for additional suspects? Are Amber Alerts less effective in neighborhoods that have become numb to crime?
Stay tuned for more on GML tonight at 6:30p and 9:30p. In the meantime, leave your comments on my blog.

"Disapproval" Rating is More Like It

A 13% approval rating is an 87% disapproval rating. Is n't that grounds for impeachment? Can a governor be asked to leave midway through his term? Come clean Blagojevich! Stop avoiding reporters, stop giving canned (rehearsed answers), and if there is any corruption, kickbacks, favors, or malfeasance, just tell us, and we will forgive you. The public can handle the truth. Admitting these actions could boost your approval rating (maybe) and you could be in better shape for the forthcoming election.

Well, maybe not.

87% disapproval (even if there is an undecided constituency) is still a huge mountain to climb. The Tribune's cover says "Blagojevich: 13% approval. " You're in bad shape governor!

Jon Burge: Statute of Lims on Torture? Nonsense!

jon burge.jpg

ProgressIllinois.com File Photo

I am fed up with Jon Burge and I have problems with the massive cover-up that has taken years to truly expose. The Chicago Tribune states, "Special prosecutors have alleged that former Chicago Police Cmdr. Jon Burge led the torture of criminal suspects for two decades, coercing dozens of confessions with fists, kicks, radiator burns, guns to the mouth, bags over the head and electric shock to the genitals." Jon Burge pleading the 5th Amendment, skating away into the margins of statute of limitations is bogus. On Garrard McClendon's trial, he's a criminal and I believe the testimonials of the tortured deserve to be heard once again. $20 million is a great settlement, but money and justice aren't synonymous.

"A special prosecutors' report paid for by Cook County and released in 2006 concluded that dozens of suspects had been tortured but that no one could be prosecuted because the statute of limitations had run out"Tribune on

Helicopter Tragedy in Aurora

I am saddened by the tragedy in Aurora. Four people were killed including a 1 year old patient, an EMT, a nurse, and the pilot. Helicopters are incredible vehicles that save lives everyday, but occasionally, tragedy strikes.

My condolences to the families.

Carpooling: Revenge of the Dummies

CarpoolKenny.jpg

Photo: Carpool Kenny (2008)

Carpool Kenny is about to see a spike in his revenue if the State of Illinois introduces the dreaded carpool lane. I'm not havin' it. The lane of choice shouldn't be dependent upon the number of passengers in the car. You can't charge a toll on my car and then charge me extra because I am the only person in the car. Nonesense! I'll get an air pump, inflate Kenny, and take my chances. If the cops pull me over, I'll say - at least Kenny had his seatbelt administered. He loves talk radio and when someone wants a ride, I can say, "sorry, no room." Taxes and tolls are high enough - and you want to charge me for not carpooling? The state should buy a flying car for me or pay for my broadband so I can work from home.

A Requiem for Kiyanna Salter: Family and Father Pfleger Speak Out!

kiyanna salter courtesy family photo.JPGKiyanna Salter is no longer with us. A senseless crime has taken her away from her family, friends, and the the rest of the world. I never met Kiyanna, but I have heard so much about her. Multitalented, magnetic, energetic, and so, so smart.

I am saddened by her passing and the pain and sufferring that the family must endure. An alledged person on the same bus was disrespected and exits bus (without a clue) and alledgedly starts shooting and takes the life of Kiyanna Salter.

Sad.

Who will cry for the innocent? Who will cry for Salter?

Thinking of Officer Nathaniel Taylor, Jr.

taylorpic.jpg                                              Nathaniel Taylor, Jr - Police Handout

Today, I am saddened by the second police officer slain in the line of duty in the last 3 months. Nathaniel Taylor Jr. (only 39 years old), passed away this weekend. During a search warrant, he was the victim of unfriendly fire by the alleged shooter, Lamar Cooper. Often, we paint a grim picture of police officers, claiming that they're all crooked, sneaky, hot-headed. But all-in-all, they serve and protect. We call them - first, when danger lurks.  How do you view the police? How do you view those who harm officers?

The police in your eyes: friend or foe?

Sliwinski May Be Up For Release?

While attempting suicide, Jeanette Sliwinski was responsible for killing Michael Dahlquist, Douglas Meis, and John Glick in the process. Sentenced to 8 years (3 counts of reckless homicide), she may get out in three. Which means next week. It's clear - when you're a former model suffering from bi-polar disorder, you get out of jail quick - despite having killed Michael Dahlquist, Douglas Meis, and John Glick.

Talk to me - what do you think?

Jason Austin Acquitted Before Convicted?

Jason Austin is Free?

austin soto romberg.jpgThere was always a fishy side to the story of jailing Jason Austin. I feel for the victim's families, and Chicago PD needs to find the perpetrators.

Family members say that Austin was no where near the crime scene. Jason says his car was in the shop, but Chicago's Finest said that the car fit his automobile's description. You gotta' be kidding me. Leave Jason Austin alone and find the real offenders. What are your thoughts on the temporary incarceration of Jason Austin? Did Chicago PD rush to judgment?

Sex Abuse in Church? Pay to Play!

- Cardinal George Settles - $12.7 million to Victims -

Sex should be a sacred act of mutual affection involving a man and a woman in marital bliss. Or should it?

Not for sex abuse victims, violated by Catholic priests. Just hush for a few years and we will compensate you handsomely. Don't tell your parents what I'm doing to you. It's none of their business until we get caught, and then the Chicago archdiocese will pay you, your parents, and other victims to the tune of $12 million collectively. It is a terrible day when Cardinal Francis George has to apologize (go to public confessional) and divvy out settlements because of priests like Daniel McCormack and others.

Come on Catholics!  Let the priests get married; sexual desires can only be contained by those who are called not to be sexually active. Most men have to have sex, regardless of religious cloaking, collars, and cover-ups. Desire for good purpose is "good." Suppression of desires because of religious practice is being untruthful to God.  Allowing priests to get married is just one step. Ridding the Catholic community of child predators is a serious civil rights issue.

Olympics in Chicago? Can We Handle It?

daley obama blago.jpg

Beijing is on the center stage as the Olympics begins. The city has had to clean up, build, create infrastructure, infuse more technology, and provide business and resident security. Will Chicago be able to handle an Olympic Games? Even with massive improvements to the roads, a possible new stadium in Washington Park, and the beauty of Lake Shore Drive and the Loop, Chicago still needs to get its crime problem in order. 600 caskets in one year? A welcoming committee's dream.

26th and California Knows How To Party...

Remember the movie "Face Off" with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage? Magnetic boots on a lock-down. I think we need those...clearly a humane technology for offender control.

Well it seems that the mansion at 26th and California needs those boots because the Cook County Jail has failed to do the following:

"Protect prisoners from being harmed by inmates and staff, and

Provide adequate medical, mental health, fire prevention, and sanitation.

In March 2007, The jail had 35 inmate fights with 46 weapons being confiscated," according to Mike Robinson at the AP.

Stay out of trouble and stay your but out of Cook County Jail. The terrible living conditions are worse than the incarceration. Call the show tonight and join the discussion. 630-575-TALK.
