Roland Out the Red Carpet, Not Quite

US Senate appointee Roland Burris is involved in what's become a political chess match.  Senate Democrats intend to block his appointment and Secretary of State Jesse White won't sign the certification.  Burris can't technically get into next week's swearing in without it.  But many legal eagles point to the 1969 Supreme Court case of Powell v. McCormack which concluded the Senate has no right to reject the appointment.  If Roland decides to sue many think the federal court will rule in his favor because of the precedent.

Appointee Roland Burris and Secretary of State Jesse White join us tonight and there is lots to talk about.  It's going to be an interesting show!  Leave a comment and share your thoughts, then hit the phonelines tonight at 6:30pm.  (630) 575-TALK.

E HOUSE:

Mr. White you have lost my support and on any re-election bid. What you are doing is unforgivable and unfogetable. . .

Renegade:

I admire what Jesse White is doing. He's protecting the process from contamination. Blagojevich should have appointed a selection committee. White said he'd have supported Burris if Pat Quinn had made the nomination so I don't see why anyone should lose respect for White.

Burris' confidence and determination are both hilarious and laudable.

As Attorney General, Roland Burris tried hard to have two men executed he knew to be innocent. Allowing himself to be used by a corrupt Governor is just another chance for Burris to sell his soul for higher office.

Dorene:

Monica was all over Roland Burris case with plenty of attitude and didn't not seem partial in her interview, demeanor, etc. at all. This has left a very bad taste in my mouth.

On another hand, I see this whole Roland Burris ordeal as being racially motivated. I feel its really about keeping the Senate lilly-white. In a way I feel Mr. Burris should back off and let them have it. it's really not worth the stress. While we are very proud of Barack Obama's accomplishment, his accomplishment has not and will not solve society's problems. And unfortunately I truly believe "race" will continue to be an issue for all minorities, especially blacks, until the Lord himself returns. So at this point, I suggest that we just turn everything over to the Lord and ask that his will be done. Let's remember that he won't put more on us than we can bear. We are a strong people and we are survivors!

Dorene:

I forgot to add that I too will not support Jesse White in ANY future re-election bid.

Anthony Johnson:

durbin and Jesse white it is time for the two of you to go. The same thing that the two of you are saying blagojevich has done you two have also done. Mr quinn it is also time for you to go along with fitzgerald. You people have the gall to go against this man because he will not follow along with your madness?? I am going to try my best to see that people find out about your dirty dealings also. And Burris should get that seat. i am sorry to say that white people donot and cannot truly represent the african-american population in a truly honest and honorable capacity.
