Ted Geisel aka: Dr. Suess working on Grinch in 1957.
Did you spend less on Christmas gifts this year?
Why? Was it the weather, a cash crunch, or a better meaning for Christmas? It looks as if the Grinch may have stolen the gift buying habits, but your holiday can still be an enjoyable one without a bunch of stuff. Sadly, charity is down as well so some not-for-profit agencies may not be able to give as much as normal. Nevertheless, let's carry the spirit of giving in our hearts, make some gifts for people, hugs are still free, and deadbolt the door keeping the most famous Dr. Suess character, The Grinch, at bay.

Did the Grinch or was it the commercialization of Christmas that committed the theft?
Maybe with less we can focus on the more meaningful aspect of this Holiday Season, JESUS CHRIST the Savior.

I am not going to spend that much this year. Our
family stop exchanging gifts a long time ago
because it was too expensive. I may get my mom
a book and I will give a friend of mine a gift.
Is your show still going to talk about Drew
Peterson?

Actually this year I was able to buy more gifts for my kids, due to the fact I could spread out my payments by shopping off the t.v. shopping networks which offer this option. I also found that prices seemed more reasonable if you really looked for bargain they were out there, even shopping on line proved to save me money.Plus in all fairness I started early this year, which really helped.

Garrard,
I spent more this year than in previous years. Prices were down on a lot of things. The mark ups on the merchandise was to high to begin with.
Are things really this bad? I understand some companies are not doing as well as they would like. It really seems to me like the news media has made tough economic times out to be much worse than they might be. It goes from one extreme to the next. Housing crisis, banking crisis, then credit crisis, second mortgage crisis, oil crisis, ect. Its pretty easy for companies to start laying off workers when the news media has done all the heavy lifting for them. The news media has pretty much told laid the ground work for these companies to say hey times are tough we have to let you go. Can every business really be losing money? Are all of them operating in the red? Give me a break I see people out every day spening money, going here driving there, out with there kids. They dont let you in the sporting events for free. The Monday night Bears game was sold out. Food and drinks at the game is not cheap by any means.
How could all these companies and businesses be bankrupt? The mark ups in prices are unreal, yet they are all broke? Yeah right! Why have these companies not canned the CEO that is raking in big bucks yet? The business did not go belly up over night. If all these companies are in such bad shape the CEO should have been fired months if not year ago. I am not buying it. This is an easy way for many to cut jobs, wages, and benefitts so they people at the top can continue to line their pockets with the money.

The economy has made a difference, but it also caused us to reflect on the real reason for the season who is Christ the Lord.

Celebrating Christmas is suppose to be a time to celebrate the birth of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Exchanging gifts is not the true essence of celebrating Christmas but unconditional giving is. If an individual has to be deliquent on paying a bill to feel they are celebrating Christ's Birthday, they are missing the true reasoning for the season.
The Lite, 93.9 radio station epitomizes the true commercialization of Christmas to the utmost. They started playing Christmas songs shortly after Halloween simply to encourage people to spend money.
