PACE bus drivers have thrown a wrench into the machine. Ten percent of 155 PACE drivers called in sick today - evidently in protest for contract negotiations. Is it best to negotiate or boycott?
Is a boycott the only way to get people's attention?
I really enjoyed your show tonight (Mon) re PACE. I live in Forest Park and use PACE to the "L" - anyway no problem today. However, when the rep indicated that folk should go on their web - well Tue there may be other routes affected, certainly not the same ones as today. Also, Rick the driver indicated that PACE drivers should get paid like CTA bus drivers - NO WAY - CTA Chicago routes are longer - more people and the clientel is certainly different, at some places, worst than any PACE driver could even envision. - Now, I just heard that they have a person on custody re the shooting of the policeman and his girlfriend - let's use our brain here - they those two were fighting and the police actually came up to their car to see what the problem was - would you try to rob them right after the police left??? duh - the police were still in the area after talking to the couple - I think her ex-cop boyfriend killed them and they are covering this one up. f
There are many problems with pace and their intities, that the public are not being made aware of. Not only are they slow in negotiating a contract but, not following as negotiatied. Yes, we are all thankful that we have jobs, but, one thing the public must understand it is paramount for them to live up to their end of the contract, so that we can keep them. People just don't know what a driver/operator goes through trying to keep their jobs! We urge the public in encouraging PACE, CTA, and, MVTransporatation/ PACE, and other Public Transportation Providers to, resolve disputes as soon, and, efficient as possible.
First of all, i'd like to say that i do understand, being a Pace Transportation Rider, that there are problems with some of the service that We as Riders experience, but, i also understand the plight of the Drivers/operators as well!!! We must understand the whole picture from both sides before we jump on a team!!! Alot of Drivers/Operators, are being blamed for the way that the riders are being picked up, and scheduled, but, that's not a fair assestment for people to make, when the driver/operator has absolutly nothing to do with that particular aspect of the business, they're job is to solely, pickup, and, drop off the riders. As far as the contract negotiations, if you are a rider, that is not an issue of yours, so, with that being said, you must know the deal, before you comment on how/what the driver/operator is/not doing, and, how they should be paid. Thank You for having an outlet for concerned riders, operators, and drivers, to express how they really feel about the unfair treatment of us all. Hopefully, this will get much needed attention, and it will not go unheard, that way, we will all get what we so deserve, and it will be efficient for us all as well. thank you.
I once worked for a union shop for 16 years. I know how many employers undermind contract language in order to maximize their interest. I'm sure the bus drivers deal with some crazy stuff.
