There is an award for information leading to the arrest of Mya Lyons' killer. Ald. Howard Brookins and local pastors have offered a $5,500 reward and the community is still in search of the offender.
Ald. Brookins has agreed to be on GML and we are asking you to call in with your questions and comments concerning this incident. Are awards enough? What should the community do at this point? Do you agree with the actions of Ald. Brookins? Will the Chicago Police solve this case?
Comment and call today! 630-575-TALK.

This is a great start I'll admit. Though I hate to add anything to this that seems to be cynical but I hope to see more money on the table.
Point being, there is more money raised at the average African American church/pastor anniversary service than what's being offered to catch the killer of this precious life.
Ooopps! Did I say that? Somebody pray for me.

I agree with the previous poster (Charles Burns). However, one should not have to offer a reward for information about this child's killer. Adopting the idea, "If you see something, say something", is simply the right thing to do, as well as one's civic duty. This has it's OWN reward, in the short- or long-run, and it is priceless.
Snitching? I think NOT... And, as a matter of fact, many folks who speak of "snitching" do not know the true meaning of the word. If we could just get rid of the ignorance surrounding this ONE issue, we could go a long way in beginning to take back our streets, our neighborhoods, and (ultimately) our sanity.
Just my opinion...

Greetings: GML & Readers
I feel as if little Mya was one of my own family members, that's how hurt and upset I am over this tragedy. Everything is not adding up. I don't know how many people are living inside of the family's household but, I do believe and I hate to have to say this but, I feel that Mya knew her killer! I hope all family and neighbors are being closely investigated. My prayers & condolences go out to the entire family. I send out a special prayer to Mya's mother, I can't begin to imagine her pain.

I don't agree with the "stop snitching" mantra but I understand the reasoning. There is a lack of police presence from jump street. And I think people don't tell because they are afraid for their own safety. Just like those proctection orders a piece of paper that rarely protects. We need more police on the streets, more activties for the kids. Have school year round and hold parents accountable. This story does not compute.

I agree that something is not right about this story. Yes, something very sketchy took place that night. Upon first hearing the story on the news, I strongly believed a relative was involved in her murder. Oddly, after seeing the father, I thought it was him. He showed no emotions and look very suspect. If not him, I am thinking the stepbrother who they have not showed yet. My prayers go out to Mya's mother, family and friends. Whoever did this is an animal with no conscious. She was just a child, an innocent baby!! I hope they catch the person that did this soon and hope that person realizes that what he/she did to Mya, will haunt them for the rest of their life. I do believe Ald. Brookins is doing the right thing, by stepping out to the forefront and assisting however possible to find the killer. I think this is a part of his ward. If he is heading this it shows; leadership skills and a genuine concern for the people in the 21st Ward. Good call Ald. Brookins!
