The FBI is revealing new details about more than 3,500 ancient artifacts found in a Berwyn home, two years ago.
The items include manuscripts handwritten by Roman emperors, figurines dating back to 4th century B.C., hundreds of rare books, a document signed by Mussolini, and a 1662 doctorate's degree from the University of Naples. The artifacts are valued at up to $10 million.
The investigation started in April 2007, after the death of John Sisto. Sisto's relatives were looking through his Berwyn home when they discovered the ancient treasures.
From 1960-1982, FBI officials say John Sisto was receiving shipments from his father, Giuseppe, who still lived in Italy. Giuseppe Sisto wanted his son to sell the artifacts on the black market.
Authorities say about 1,500 items were determined to be stolen and will be shipped to the Italian government, this week. The rest of the artifacts will remain with the Sisto family.
