Renita Carter is a grieving mother on a mission. Last night, her only child was shot and killed by Chicago Police officers and she's determined to find out what really happened.
According to police, Carter’s son, Dashaun Winston wounded four people last night when he opened fire in a convenience store in the South Shore neighborhood.
Police say the 18 year old fled the scene on foot and at some point, pointed his weapon police. Officers fired, killing Winston.
Carter came to the scene last night trying to find out what happened to her son, but she says police would tell her nothing. At one point, she claims an officer threatened to taser her. She says all she knows about the incident is what she heard on the news.
In between tears this morning, Carter told me that her son was a victim and not the gunman, as police say. She wants to know why police have not contacted her yet.
What’s your take on this? Should police have reached out to Carter to tell her what happened to her son?
