Summer break is about to get shorter for hundreds of Chicago Public Schools students.
The Board of Education is expected to approve a plan today expanding the number of year-round elementary schools from 65 to 132 by fall.
Students at year-round schools have the same number of school days as children at schools with traditional schedules, but instead of one long summer break, they have shorter mini breaks.
Schools CEO Ron Huberman said the year-round calendar offer a continuous learning cycle for students. He also says that schools are one of the safest places for the students.
But I spoke to one parent who said the year-round system is going to be a big inconvenience for her because she has kids who attend other schools that are not on the same system.
What's your take on year-round schools? Are they a good thing or just another problem for parents already juggling child care and work?

This is absloutley horrible. This is outrageous! Summer vacation is the only safe haven from school for young people. And it is even worse for elemantary schools. I hope that they don't do it for high schools.
