Swine flu fears have some people anxious, on alert and possibly overreacting.
More than 150 deaths in Mexico are blamed on the virus so far which is thought to be the epicenter of the illness. Health officials say the number of confirmed swine flu cases in the United States has jumped to 68 though none of the cases have been fatal.
There also reported cases in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region. Americans are being urged not to travel to Mexico if they don't have to.
President Barack Obama continues to call for calm in the face of the swine flu threat.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says that "passive surveillance" of the U.S. border with Mexico is sufficient and tougher monitoring measures are not yet necessary.
But some people say that’s not enough.
Congressman Eric Massa from Corning, New York is calling for the White House to immediately close the 2,000-mile border between the U.S. and Mexico. Massa is a Naval Academy graduate and Persian Gulf War veteran. He says the border should be shut down until the virus is contained and controlled.
What do you think?
Will closing the border help contain this possible pandemic or is shutting down the border overreacting?
