If you haven’t heard by now, some 16 Whitney Young High School students were among 27 Chicago-area teens arrested Saturday in a downstate hotel and charged with underage drinking. The teens were there for the high school basketball championship tournament, which Whitney Young captured later Saturday night. I ventured to Whitney Young on Chicago's West Side this morning to get the students take on what happened to their classmates over the weekend.
One girl, who was sporting stylish glasses and the perfect ponytail as she walked briskly to the school, told me that she wasn’t surprised that a group of teens were caught with alcohol -- because that’s what teens do.
But she said she was surprised that Whitney Young students were involved. Why? Because, according to Viviana, elite magnet students don’t do such things. She then explained that Whitney Young students are far too smart to take part in such debauchery.
Are Whitney Young students smart? Yes. But to me, this just proves that even smart kids do dumb things.

Nice blog. The title of this blog says it all. Even high school kids who study hard are going to celebrate. Smart kids in my high school were no exception. If our team had won the state championship, I know lots of honor roll students would have been partying. In fact, some of them were partying anyway.
