Can the Auto Industry be Saved?

Billions of your hard-earned tax dollars have already gone to bailout U.S. automakers. Now beleaguered auto giants General Motors and Chrysler are asking for more government aid to survive.

President Barack Obama has outlined some tough rules for the automakers: saying more painful concessions are needed from unions, creditors and others before further long-term federal bailout funds are approved.

The president says he is committed to this great American industry and creating a 21st century auto industry that is creating new jobs, unleashing new prosperity, and manufacturing the fuel-efficient cars and trucks that will carry us toward an energy independent future. What do you think? Should we continue to throw taxpayer money at car makers?
