Hit a POTHOLE lately? Geez!
They're popping up EVERYWHERE! In some parts of our vast area, it really is like trying to maneuver your way through one of those carnival-style obstacle courses. Problem is instead of a carnie-car, it's YOUR car taking the hits! Double Geez!
Officials in the City of Chicago, where the holes have been popping really early this season (as of 12/29, more than 1100 calls a day!) blame it on Mother Nature's quickly revolving freeze and thaw cycle. And according to a report out of Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism, civil engineers they spoke to agree that there ain't much to be done, "... at least not without much, much more maintenance and much, much more money. "
Well, we all know more money's not happening in these tough-economic-city-and- state-budget-times. Triple Geez!
But then again that same Medill report quotes one U.S. transportation expert who says while American roads are built to last about 30 years, in Western Europe they drum up the cash to build roads that last some 50 years. What's not clear though, is whether those more expensive, half-century-roads are pothole proof?
GOT A GOOD POTHOLE BEEF (Location or Story) TO SHARE?
Consider it your civic duty to warn others of the said location. Or, look at it as a way to 'release your frustration' after hitting a real doozy! Quadruple Geez!
