"Barack the Magic Negro"

A candidate for chairman of the Republican National Committee is being criticized for sending out a CD with a song called "Barack the Magic Negro."

Chip Saltsman, the former Tennessee GOP leader who managed Mike Huckabee's presidential campaign, called it a light-hearted political parody.

The song, written by a conservative comedian, refers to a March 2007 opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times called "Obama the Magic Negro."' The article argued that voting for Obama helped white voters assuage their guilt over racial wrongs in the past.

The current chair of the RNC, Robert M. Duncan, said he's shocked and appalled that Saltsman sent the song out.

What do you think? Offensive or funny?
