Is eHarmony Out of Sync?
If you owned a business that provides a specific service, should someone be allowed to sue you to force you to change that service?
Sounds like a silly question, but it just happened to the dating website eHarmony.

From Chicago Breaking News Center: "William Balfour was arrested Monday on a warrant for murder in the deaths of three relatives of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson. Balfour is currently at the Wentworth Area Headquarters, and no charges have been filed in the case."
Below is video coverage from CLTV and WGN of the investigation.
The proposed rate changes:
At the high end in the Loop.. from $3.00/hr right now.. to $6.50 by 2013.
At the low end in some neighborhoods.. from 25 cents/hr... to 2 bucks by 2013.
And not just 9-to-5 -- but 24/7!!
The Mayor's working to get the city council to sign off on big increases in the cost to feed city parking meters. It's actually part of a big privatization deal that would let an outside group run the meters, in exchange for paying Chicago more than a billion bucks, up front, to do so. (Big bucks that could obviously pump some much needed cash into city coffers during these tough economic times.)
BUT... could this all backfire? Could such high Chicago parking rates convince many to simply skip coming downtown altogether? Thus, taking a real bite out of city sales tax revenue (- cuz all those downtown restaurants and shops, etc. just won't be selling as much)!
If it costs more to park downtown and elsewhere in Chicago, will YOU skip the trip?
And if you live in the city, how does it affect you?

Former workers at Republic Windows and Door company on Chicago's North Side have been staging a sit-in on the factory floor since Friday to protest abruptly losing their jobs. Below is video coverage of the events including Gov. Rod Blagojevich's statement from the factory. Stay tuned to CLTV, cltv.com and the Breaking News Center for updates.
The protest at Republic Windows and Doors in Goose Island is picking up steam faster than a locomotive. At first, the workers started a peaceful sit-in on Friday, three days after learning their factory was shutting down for good. That's when everyone started to jump on the story. First, Congressman Luis Gutierrez joined the fight, calling for a meeting between all parties. He quoted law saying the workers needed 60 days notice or receive vacation and severance pay. The workers received nothing. On Sunday, Reverend Jesse Jackson came out, then Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, and finally President-elect Barack Obama was asked about the situation at a news conference. The politicians weren't done. Governor Rod Blagojevich held a news conference on Monday with workers, threatening to cut ties with Bank of America for getting rid of the company's line of credit after receiving a large government bailout. What do you think? Who is sincere in their concern for these workers? Can this spark change and will other workers across the country join the fight? Reverend Jackson compared these workers to Rosa Parks and her fight for civil rights. Is this just the start of a nationwide worker revolt?
Dear Viewer,
As you may already know, our parent company, Tribune, and its individual media properties, which includes CLTV have filed to restructure their debt obligations under the protection of Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.
What does all this mean for our viewers and advertisers? As a practical matter, very little. Tribune is continuing to operate its media businesses, including its newspapers, television stations and websites. And, at CLTV, we remain dedicated to providing you with the great news coverage you’ve come to expect from us every day.
The decision to restructure our debt was predicated by the dramatic and unexpected operating conditions we’ve encountered this year. We have experienced the perfect storm –– a precipitous decline in revenue and a tough economy have coupled with a credit crisis making it extremely difficult to support our debt. All of our major advertising categories have been dramatically impacted.
This restructuring is in Tribune’s best long-term interest. It will reduce pressure on our operating businesses, enabling us to pursue our vision of creating a sustainable, cutting-edge media company that is valued by our readers, viewers, and advertisers, and that plays a vital role in the communities we serve. That, in turn, will help this station continue to broadcast the news, information and entertainment you can’t get anywhere else. It’s what you expect and what we’ll continue to deliver.
We remain committed to serving Chicagoland.
Steve Farber
General Manager
P.S. Tribune Company made the announcement regarding this filing Monday, and the news was thoroughly covered on CLTV. You’ll find more coverage and in-depth analysis of the story in the Chicago Tribune, and you can get more information about Tribune’s Chapter 11 filing at Tribune.com or http://chapter11.epiqsystems.com/tribune.
The Chicago Breaking News Center reports that Gov. Rod Blagojevich was taken into federal custody at his North Side home Tuesday morning. Read a copy of the press release from the U.S. Department of Justice which summarizes what was recorded during the Governor's phone calls.
CLTV and The Breaking News Center will continue to follow this story throughout the day.
Anyone who's watched the federal noose tighten around Governor Rod Blagojevich these past few years probably isn't surprised the feds went after him.
Many saw the pay-to-play allegations that came to light in the trial of Blagojevich's former fundraiser Tony Rezko were a harbinger of things to come.
But what shocks most political observers is the breadth, brazeness, and vulgarity of what the feds alleged.
That after his top fundraiser was sent to the federal pen and as he knew the feds were watching his every move that he would try to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the election of Barack Obama to the presidency.
Here's a little taste of what the feds allegedly captured on tape:
Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. awoke Wednesday to the unfortunate reality that he is "Senate Candidate 5." And that's not a good thing.
That's one of the senate hopefuls referred to in an FBI agent's affidavit which details Gov. Rod Blagojevich's alleged scheme to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by president elect Barack Obama.
In it Blagojevich talked about giving "Senate Candidate 5" the seat in exchange for raising $500 thousand and later a one million dollars for him.
According to the feds' recordings Blagojevich said he wanted something "tangible, up front."
Today Jackson himself addressed reporters in Washington and professed his innocence.
Watch this and tell us what you think.

The political walls continue to collapse around Gov. Rod Blagojevich as he tries desperately to hold on to his job amid federal corruption charges.
This morning Attorney General Lisa Madigan kicked it up a few notches as she filed a motion with the Ilinois Supreme Court to have him declared incapacitated in an effort to force him from office, at least temporarily or in the alternative strip away his power to appoint Barack Obama's successor.
At a news conference at the Thompson Center Madigan admitted it was an extraordinary request but quickly added "these are extraordinary circumstances"
She said the current situation made it impossible for Blagojevich to govern "with any legitimacy."
What do you think? Can Blagojevich still discharge his duties?
Attorney General Lisa Madigan wasn't even done answering questions about her push to have the state supreme court declare governor Blagojevich unfit to hold office when government watchdogs began lauding her.
Here's a statement from Jay Stewart, head of the Better Government Association:
BGA applauds Illinois Attorney General's suit to remove Governor
The State of Illinois is in a crisis. Governor Blagojevich is a continuing harm to our state. Any and all measures available to remove the Governor must be pursued as fast as practically possible.
Accordingly, the Better Government Association (“BGA”) applauds Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s decision today to file suit in the Illinois Supreme Court demanding the court remove Governor Blagojevich.
However, the Attorney General’s bold action should not be used as an excuse by anyone in the General Assembly to hold back on impeachment proceedings. Standing by idly while our state’s future teeters in the balance is completely unacceptable. Impeachment is a separate process than the action filed by the Attorney General and both can move forward at the same time.
Failure to act is tantamount to failing to protect our state and its citizens. The Attorney General has acted, we demand the General Assembly exercise its impeachment power as soon as possible.

In a unanimous decision, the Illinois House voted to begin impeachment proceedings against Governor Rod Blagojevich.

There are few issues that most Illinois pols can agree on, and one of them is their near-universal dislike of embattled Governor Rod Blagojevich.
So it's no surprise that on Monday the house voted 113 to zip to put together a Special Investigative Committee to see if impeachment is warranted.
But that unanimous vote belies rancorous debate from the Republican side of the aisle.
3 hours from Skokie? 4 to Oak Brook? Last night's snow could not have come at a worse time for evening commuters, causing travel times to skyrocket. The clean-up continues this morning and Chicagoland also prepares for another storm, due to blow into the are tomorrow evening.
According to the Breaking News Center, "Tuesday's snow hit a record mark for December 16 in Chicago, with 4.8 inches, according to preliminary reports from the National Weather Service. The prior record, set in 1973, was 4.3 inches."
How did the weather affect your drive? Did your commute double? Triple? Did you see any plows on the road? Sound off here.

The AP is reporting that Drew Peterson is now engaged. According to the reports, "a publicist for the former Illinois police sergeant suspected in the disappearance of his wife says the ex-officer is engaged to be married again. Publicist Glenn Selig says 54-year-old Drew Peterson proposed within the last week after dating the woman for about four months. Selig says the woman is 23 — the same age as Stacy Peterson when she disappeared in October 2007."
What do you think?
Governor Rod Blagojevich has a top attorney defending him in Eddie Genson.
Genson is lion of the Chicago bar known for using his legal prowess for the benefit of mobsters and corrupt pols among others.
But the legal magic honed over the last four decades had little effect at the Springfield hearing of lawmakers investigating whether to impeach the embattled governor.
At every turn Genson decried the proceedings as illegal and all but a kangaroo court.
And lawmakers threw it right back at him. One state rep. young enough to be his daughter told him to retake a law school class.
Genson had a rude awakening.

A major snow and ice storm blew into Chicagoland overnight, making for a rude awakening for many on Friday morning. Below is CLTV's video coverage of the storm and the problems its causing.
Gov. Blagojevich made a brief statement today. He stated he "has done nothing wrong" and will not resign in the face of federal corruption charges.
When will we stop caring about Drew Peterson? The former Bolingbrook police officer still remains a person of interest in the case of his deceased third wife and missing fourth wife. Now comes this video of Peterson in a bar with another young woman. She denies she's his newly engaged fiance. But people want to see the video. They go to the websites looking for it. It's played on newcasts across Chicago. Is it becoming too much? Do you want to see video of him if he's going to the supermarket or dinner with the young lady? What's crossing the line? Or is it all fair game because of the situation he's currently in? Coming next, new video of Drew Peterson eating breakfast at a restaurant.
CLTV would like to congratulate this year's Chicagoans of the Year.
A candidate for chairman of the Republican National Committee is being criticized for sending out a CD with a song called "Barack the Magic Negro."

Hit a POTHOLE lately? Geez!
They're popping up EVERYWHERE! In some parts of our vast area, it really is like trying to maneuver your way through one of those carnival-style obstacle courses. Problem is instead of a carnie-car, it's YOUR car taking the hits! Double Geez!
Officials in the City of Chicago, where the holes have been popping really early this season (as of 12/29, more than 1100 calls a day!) blame it on Mother Nature's quickly revolving freeze and thaw cycle. And according to a report out of Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism, civil engineers they spoke to agree that there ain't much to be done, "... at least not without much, much more maintenance and much, much more money. "
Well, we all know more money's not happening in these tough-economic-city-and- state-budget-times. Triple Geez!
But then again that same Medill report quotes one U.S. transportation expert who says while American roads are built to last about 30 years, in Western Europe they drum up the cash to build roads that last some 50 years. What's not clear though, is whether those more expensive, half-century-roads are pothole proof?
GOT A GOOD POTHOLE BEEF (Location or Story) TO SHARE?
Consider it your civic duty to warn others of the said location. Or, look at it as a way to 'release your frustration' after hitting a real doozy! Quadruple Geez!
As a reporter in Chicago it's interesting for me not only to cover the political intrigue we're witnessing right now but the reaction of those who are far removed from the events.
My cousins from Australia were here visiting for the holidays when Governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested on federal corruption charges after allegedly trying to 'sell' the open U.S. Senate seat he had sole power to fill, by appointment.
They're now home but continue to follow developments. That includes the latest turn with Blagojevich going against nearly every democrat in the country by appointing someone to fill the seat.
Roland Burris, the former Illinois Attorney General and state Comptroller, was tapped today to be that person.
The question from my cousin, "Why did the governor do that when he knows it's not going to be accepted?"
Good question.
