The Secret of Body Language.

obamamccain1.jpg

I'll admit it. I'm a nerd. 100% purebred All-American nerd.

This claim is backed up by the hours I've spent watching networks like History Channel and Discovery.

I was guilty of it this weekend, in fact.

The show "Secrets of Body Language" on History Channel grabbed my attention.

Sure, I know what you do and how you say something is as important (if not more) as what you say.

That's how JFK "won" the debate against Nixon in 1960, right?

I was surprised, though, to find out that gesture, facial expressions and body movement compose 93% of communication. The math whiz in me figured out that leaves just 7% for the actual words.

Seven percent.

That doesn't say much for words, does it?

The picture above is one of those times when something that happened in a split second can make you cringe. Sure, John McCain wasn't doing that the entire night of the debate. It's a fraction of a second frozen in time. It was taken by Reuters News Agency photographer Jim Bourg.

Thing is, it was still captured.

It brings attention to the fact that, no matter the candidate, he or she needs to be very aware of how they conduct themselves.

That's why many of us look at a public figure and think, "Gosh, they don't seem to be acting normally."

They're not. They've been taught how to move, what to say and how to say it.

Consultants make a lot of money to teach this skill.

Why?

Because it doesn't come naturally for a lot of people.

So, as we look at what happens over the course of the next two weeks before the election--keep in mind that the tiniest look can actually sway a person's vote.

Conspiracy Theorist:

I saw this freeze frame somewhere else, can't remember where, and I'm having a hard time believing it's not something that's been PhotoShopped. Are you sure it's a legit picture? (This question comes to you from an Obama supporter.)

Thanks.
