A group of 100 college presidents is calling on lawmakers to make a controversial change that would affect students across the country.
They want the current drinking age lowered from 21 to 18.

The presidents represent some of the country's most popular universities, including Duke, Dartmouth, Ohio State, Syracuse (my alma mater), and Lake Forest College in Chicago's north suburbs.
Here's their argument: Since the drinking law is routinely broken, anyway -- if kids could drink at 18, the law would be easier to enforce and could possibly cut down on the sometimes deadly binge drinking that plagues college campuses.
But, Mothers Against Drunk Driving says lowering the drinking age would lead to more DUI's and fatal crashes.
Since many kids turn 18 while they're still in high school, it's also possible that upperclassmen will be more likely to buy alcohol for younger kids -- making drinking a bigger problem in high schools and middle schools.
We should add that the drinking age in Canada and most European countries is 18 and lower.
What do you think? Lower the drinking age? Or, keep it where it is?
