Lisa, Stacy and... Yasmin?

We've all heard about Lisa Stebic and Stacy Peterson but what about a missing 16-year-old named Yasmin Acree? Have you heard much about her? This African American teenager disappeared in January and hasn't been seen since.

Mary Mitchell wrote about it in yesterday's Chicago Sun Times http://www.suntimes.com/news/mitchell/1043755,CST-NWS-mitch08.article

What do you think? Does the news media pay enough attention to missing minorities?

Adam Schutz:

It is always so convenient to blame things on race, isn't it? One HUGE reason Lisa Stebic and Stacy Peterson have been getting so much more attention is because of their husbands. A good 80% of the coverage has been things about their husbands, and their aggressive past's. But with this Yasmin Acree, they really don't have any leads. Now say that they believed it was the doing of a boyfriend, or father, then there would probably be more coverage into the suspect/person of interest and their background, but seeing as how all we know is that she is missing, what do we expect? To have a one hour segment saying over and over "Yasmin Acree has gone missing". When more info is found, I am sure that the media will give it more attention.

I think that the media does play a role in what people think and they also play a huge role on in racism. When an African American does a crime they say "African American man".If a caucasion man does the same crime they just say "Male".We all see this happening just like Bushes press secretary said the media help with the increase of support for the war. They never talk about missing African Americans and hispanic victims as much as they do caucasions .Its like people of color are not as important as whites. We pay taxes we work and we are humans but the world is still so racist it would have you beleive blacks are all on drugs or gang bangers. No we don't get equal treatment from the media
