Mark S. Allen:

Chicago Police Chief Hearings Produce More "Finger Pointing
and "Paralysis of Analysis."

VETERAN POLITICAL ACTIVIST CHARGES ALDERMEN, MAYOR, POLICE CHIEF AND OTHER LEADERS OF "CONTINUING TO PLAY POLITICS" WITH PROVEN CRIME PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION FUNDING WHILE CHICAGO VIOLENT CRIME AND KILLINGS TO RISE

Our youth continue to die in Little Village, Westside , Southside, Roseland, Kenwood, Auburn/Gresham, Woodlawn, Northside. The Mayor and other civic leaders continues to raise more money for the "future" Olympics versus the "right now" funding for proven crime prevention and intervention.

How does The Mayor, Police Chief, Aldermen, and other leaders continue to discuss how to address the Chicago violent crime increase, WITHOUT publicly recognizing that a majority of violent crimes are occurring in EVERY area where there used to be full time Ceasefire prevention and intervention workers YET there is no concern to find ways to restore their funding as we watch people in those once covered areas continue to die. More "paralysis of analysis" It became popular for other elected officials to point the blame totally at the Governor who had cut their funds as the reason why Ceasefire could no longer find funding as if these acts of violence were not occurring in shared jurisdictions.

The news media accurately reports each week that these acts of violence and killings and overall increase in violent crimes are in a Ward, State legislative district, County Board district, Congressional District, so the commitment to securing successful prevention and intervention efforts like Ceasefire and others is more than just the Governors, but all elected officials, civic leaders must be held accountable to show a "collective and comprehensive" leadership responsibility. People are tired of more sound bites and finger pointing..

Weis will be under scrutiny for some time. Being a 25 plus year veteran of the police department, I and others see what's coming for him and he doesn't even realize he's in for a terrible train ride. The mayor hates the police and will use Weis for his scapegoat. What kind of a federal deal did the mayor make so he wouldn't get indited? That's why we have Weis. Instead of jumping and taking the word of people, like ADS STARKS recommended, Weis should have come in and taken every thing into consideration. He should have spent a few months and picked everyone's brain before he made the changes. STARKS got HIS people IN...period !!! For years, many of us have worked all the fests. The plan was pretty much the same for the last 20 odd years and B.S. was not tolerated. I don't call it profiling, but when an officer has many, many years working the festivals, the officer(s) can look at people and tell who the thugs are and who are the phonies and wanna-be's. The idea was to confront the thugs up front and let them know they were being watched and things went smoothly. What happended to all the plans for these events? Did someone deciede to throw them out or just ignore them? WHERE ARE THE PREVIOUS PLANS FOR EVENTS ????? These plans kept everyone safe. Yes we are about 3000 officers short. Why? Because the mayor is hoarding the money, for his little olympic hopes. The mayor has also let hundreds of millions of dollars go by the wayside via HIRED TRUCK SCANDAL etc. and all the rest. Instead he wants to tax the crap out of the citizens of Chicago until there is no money left. Before you continue doing what you are doing JODY, perhaps you should pull a listing of all the officers with 15 and more years and have a sitdown with them to see what is going wrong. Just because someone has a college education does not make them street smart. As a matter of fact, the officers in the trenches could probably lead you down the right road. You are going to be sliced and diced 'til the city councel offers to buy out you contract. And speaking of contracts, perhaps you should read the one we have with the FOP, because YOUR ADS's are in the process of violating it. Check it out. You must remember that you were FBI and not a street wise working police officer....you also have a lot to learn ! You have to help lower the moral of the officers and yes crime is up but why??? Get in trenches and see first hand what we have to do! Because none of us want to get sued and just do what we have to. We want to go home safe, and not get sued for doing our job. I agree with a prior post...bs complaints and the city will just pay off anyone even when the officer is found to be in the right. I also agree with another previous post. ALD. CARATHERS will be on your but because his LT. brother no longer has a fast track to promotion, and if you are eliminated then LT. Carathers has a chance because of his brother. Jody....YOU NEED TO MAKE THE MAYOR LET YOU HIRE AT LEAST 1500 NEW OFFICERS to even come close to help in the trenches. You need to put back SUMMER MOBILE. You need to put back SOS instead of us all sending out and SOS. Jody, start talking to the troops, even if it's one on one at you office...... Get to know that other than a few bad apples this police department does work and did work. Wake up and smell the coffee....your days are numbered. Andy by the way WE in the trenches can help hold this city together with the right orders.

Ian Kingsley:

My name is Ian Kingsley, I am writing in response to the city council hearing that occured today , Tuesday July 15 at 10:00 AM concerning the recent rise in violence in our great, yet seemingly crime plagued city of Chicago. My response, hire veterans, we are able individuals. I am a veteran having spent 15 months in Iraq with the 1st Armored Divisions 1/6 Infantry Batallion. I am also on the verge of a Bacheleors degree in Criminal Justice from Chicago State University through the GI Bill. I waited two years to take the PsychologicAL screeing for the CPD. I along with many other Veterans were rejected by an outside company or vendor based out of California. We fought it at city hall with our alderman, but it did nothing for the sake of getting able people such as ourselves out on the beat to help protect this city. We have obviously proved our willingness to put ourselves in harms way for the sake of the public good. I for one would not let the threat of lawsuits prevent me from doing my best to keep violent, illegal weapon carrying criminals off the street. At the same time I would not be abusive of my powers. My conduct would be consistent with being assertive, at times aggressive, and non-threatening until absolutley necessary. However, I would like to reiterate that I believe in civil service and the protection of all citizens of our city, especially the innocent children who get cutt down before they even have a chance to pursue the American dream and whatever that would have been for them, which no one will sadly ever know. I feel it is a shame that the police Department is reportedly undermanned by 3,000 while perfectly able people such as myself and others, who possess a passion for public service, civil service, and helping others have been so wrongfully and pointlessly rejected by an extremley biased test. People like myself made it through a deployment in a combat zone and are still sane; while possessing the same interest in civil service. Thankyou to whoever takes the time to read this, from the Southside, Ian Kingsley over and out.

I understand the police arrest individuals on a daily basis. But, what about the prosecution of these individuals by the county states attorneys. I find that these criminals get arrested and in terms “given a slap on the wrist.” What are the prosecution statistics and who are holding the Cook County responsible for allowing the release of these criminals back on the street?

s kelly:

police with out a contract for over a year
police being sued over bs compaqints that the city is willing to pay off encouregeing more criminals to sue
complete lack of public and media support.
personal down by at least 3000

jane m smith:

Alderman Carathers is after WEIS due to the fact his prother, Lt. Carathers did not get ANOTHER meritorious promotion before the new regeim took over. Other than getting on the police department, Lt. Carathers has not had to work for a promotion because of his BROTHER, THE ALDERMAN
