Deadly Lessons: Wednesday

Why do kids join gangs? What is gang-life really like?

The sad reality is that some Chicago students are afraid to walk to school because they're afraid to cross into gang territory. After last month's shooting of 18 year old Ruben Ivy outside Crane High School, hundreds of students didn't show up for school because they feared gang retaliation. As a result, police officers and parents started escorting teens who live in the ABLA homes to Crane.

Tonight on Deadly Lessons, we're continuing the discussion with a closer look at gang activity. Tio Hardiman from Ceasefire and mental health expert, Dr. Carl Bell will join us live in the studio. We'll also hear from a young man who joined a gang, and now wishes he could take that decision back.

This is your opportunity to voice your opinion on this critical issue.
Tune in to CLTV at 5 pm.
We'll take your phone calls live on the air and we'll post some of your blog responses.

there is no easy answer to why kids join gangs or why
they are killing each other.but alot has to do with
what they are watching and listening to.someone has to tell them that the videos they watch on tv are just
that. life is totally different from mtv or bet.the legal guardian shouldn*t be listening with or letting their adolecence kids listen to that wo wo music.thats a start

Logic:

street organisations fill the voids of society. I appreciate your guest not placing the constituency of the lifestyle into a term (gangs). Instead, choosing correctly to place our plight in the same historical context as other americans. Great panel for looking at causes, instead of the reationary effects. I think we all agree to a need for a black nationalistic agenda to deter from mindsets of destruction, and encourage productivity.

Tony:

Why must all of Illinois pay for the crimes of these inner city gangs? The problem doesn't pertain to firearms, however, it is a parent/child issue that has roots that run for decades through the City of Chicago like a cancer. Illinois citizens are absolutely tired of being handcuffed by the crimes of a few. The mayor and governor and those who wish to continue to trample on honest citizens constitutional rights will continue to hear from those of us who have done nothing wrong. We are good tax paying citizens and demand our rights not be violated under the guise of saving these "children".
