Went to the 3rd annual Pitchfork Music Festival last night to check out some great cool bands and to soak up the "indier-than-thou" aura. "Write the Night" was the evening's theme where the ticket buyers were able to vote on the songs that they wanted to be performed. Chicago post-rockers Tortoise started off the night with a fantastic set balanced between their 90's classics: Millions Now Living Will Never Die and TNT.

(more after jump)
Yo La Tengo, indie rock vets from NJ, followed with a great blend of Velvet Underground-style lounge pop and raucous art-punk.

The highlight of the night was the reunion of Chicago noise-rockers, the Jesus Lizard. This their first show in over 10 years. David Yow hasn't changed a bit since then. Although he's now middle-aged, he still has Iggy Pop's energy and jumped into the audience through out the show and managed to keep his clothes on.

Boise, ID's Built to Spill ended the evening with their mellow indie rock similar to Death Cab For Cutie.
All in all, the evening was pretty good. However, the beverage ticket line seemed to last for miles-on-end and that's just to buy tix for beer! Hopefully, things are better managed today. Which reminds me that I've to leave today's shows. More to come tomorrow!
