Zack Morris on Jimmy Fallon

zack_morris4.jpg

If you missed last night's Jimmy Fallon, or if you want to watch again what could possibly be the most brilliant segment in late night television history, here's the clip. Zack Morris (or, going by his SAG name, Mark Paul Gosselaar), complete with mammoth cell phone, memories of Stacey Carosi and pinch rolled, faded-wash jeans chats with Jimmy about his life as a grown up actor and signs on for a Saved By The Bell class reunion. Priceless.

Naysayer:

Sorry to spoil the parade here, but this bit just wasn't funny. It's worth a laugh to see MPG back as Zack Morris, but he has absolutely no material to work with. The jokes weren't good, there are way too many glances back to the camera, and the entire bit is 5 minutes too long.

Once again Jimmy Fallon's team has a great idea and even a star willing to go along with it, but they can't pull off the execution. And once again Jimmy cracks a laugh during the first "time out." He can't even keep character when he's playing himself.

They should have hired Rickey Gervais or Justin Timberlake, I'm afraid Late Night is doomed once the novelty of the "new guy" wears off.
