YUM!
Beer and gourmet food? It's like casting your pearls before the swine, right? Beer tends to be a drink that most people associate with pizza and burgers. While those foods do make great pairings, lately craft brewers have been showing beer enthusiasts that lagers and ales can be placed alongside finer cuisine. No longer does wine dominate the culinary platform.
You can get an idea of what I'm laying down this Friday at Jake Melnick's Corner Tap (41 E. Superior). There you'll find their chef on hand along with reps from Goose Island demonstrating how certain beers compliment their respective dishes. It's $35 to get in and it's all you eat and drink.
Goose Island's standards will be on hand, as well as seasonals like Pere Jacques and the Bourbon County Brand Stout (which is very excellent! It's stout aged in KY bourbon barrels!). Jake Melnick's is providing choice fair such as spicy garlic-chili chicken wings, spinach and artichoke crostinis, chocolate bread pudding, and so on.
So force yourself to turn away from the typical pub grub and try drinking your beer with something more suited for it. Beertown.org gives you and idea of what brews pair best with certain foods. It's not an exact science (the same can be stated about wine) and it all comes down to individual taste and preference.
