All it takes is one twinkling light and I'm busting out the red-and-white stockings! But for those a little more Bah Humbug -- you can borrow a few of my favorite ways to get in the spirit of the season...
1. Millenium Park
B-Y-O-S (Bring Your Own Skates) and take a free spin around the glistening rink -- or rent a pair for only $10 to twirl under the city skyline.
More festive fun after the jump...
2. Christkindlmarket at Daley Plaza
Warm up with a mug of Gluhwein (hot spiced wine) while you browse traditional German gifts, gadgets and gizmos at this classic holiday market. Admission is free -- but Gluhwein will set you back $6 :)
3. Zoo Lights at the Lincoln Park Zoo
Stroll through a wonderland of animals and twinkling lights! The zoo is transformed into a holiday heaven not to be missed. Admission is free.
4.SantaLand Diaries by David Sedaris
For those who take a more ironic approach to the holidays, David Sedaris's hilarious tale of his time as an elf at Macy's will get you in the sarcastic spirit. Catch the one-man show at the World Folk Music Company in Beverly or at the Theatre Building Chicago in Lakeview.
5. CTA Holiday Train
It's a six-car welcome wagon for the holidays! Take a ride on the CTA's Holiday Train -- complete with Santa handing out candy canes and season's greetings! Regular CTA fares apply.
