It could be the shot heard round Hollywood. Politically charged documentarian (the most financially successful documentary filmmaker in history) will release his new film "Slacker Uprising" on the internet, free for all to download. Mike's clearly following in the footsteps of bands like Radiohead and NIN, both of which found great success with a free online release. More details about the movie after the break....
The film follows Moore's travels across the country during the 2004 election. A while back he was toting it as a sequel to "Fahrenheit 9/11," but he seems to be backing off of that a bit now. "Slacker" sounds closer to his film "The Big One." That film followed Mike on a book tour and his attempts to confront the folks at Nike about their controversial business practices. The most notable moment comes in an interview with Nike's CEO. It's definitely worth a rent if you haven't seen it already.
Time will tell if this sets a new standard for film distribution online. Maybe Mike just didn't think his latest film would play well in the theaters. You can see it for yourself, just log onto slackeruprising.com and sign up for the download. You can read more about the film in the AP story, here.
