OK, so I'm no Tom Cruise, but I now have my own cocktail. If you caught this weekend's "metromix," you saw the World's Fastest Bartender "Bobby G" Gleason, who now works for DeKuyper Liquors, whip up a signature cocktail for the program. It sure is fruity (not sure what he's trying to say with that). Anyways, here's the recipe.....
The Chicago Metro
1.50 oz. Hornitos Tequila
.75 oz DeKuyper Watermelon Squeeze
2.0 oz Pineapple Juice
1.0 oz Cranberry Juice
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain over fresh ice in a Hurricane glass. Garnish with a blown out umbrella (pull the umbrella over itself) and a watermelon ball.
We stuck around for much of Bobby's 2 hour lecture at Binny's South Loop, and it was very interesting. I found I have a lot to learn about bartender, and the overall history of the craft and alcohol itself. Here are just a few facts I jotted down during his talk...
65,000 - Cocktails that can be made at the Bellagio Las Vegas in one day.
The largest distillery in the world is in Guadalajara. It's the birthplace of Bacardi.
A Hawthorn Strainer gets its name from the company that created them. The circles in the center used to actually spell Hawthorn. These are rare today, and are sometimes thought of as collector's items.
