The first major street fest of the summer is fast approaching. Some big name bands will be there on the edge of Wicker Park and East Village. Click for the details!
The Do Division Street Fest, at a whopping 10 blocks long, is happening May 31st and June 1st. Indie hero Ted Leo of Ted Leo & The Pharmacists is the main musical attraction, playing Sunday. If memory serves me right (not always a guarantee!) this is the band's first Chicago gig since their scorcher of a set at last year's Lollapalooza. Outside of Ted Leo I'm looking forward to catching Frightened Rabbit, and Chicago indie-pop group The 1900's.
Lucero headlines Saturday, and I think their last few records are outstanding. If you like the Americana style of music (like Wilco or The Old 97's), you'll dig them. Chicago-based Mucca Pazza, the world's only rock & roll marching band also plays on Saturday.
With this music line-up, it's one of the few street festivals in town to make it a point to be at both days.
Food and drink will of course be had, plus check out the Division Street merchants at the sidewalk sale portion of the event.
Stop by and say hello to Bahar, as she'll be representing Metromix at Do Division on Saturday. I'll be there on Sunday, so let's have a beer.
cheers,
pogo
