Additional Lollapalooza Artists Announced

devotchka1.jpg

As has been the case the past few years, the Lollapalooza organizers have added additional artists to the initial roster. Some will make you say, "who are these guys?", while some ought to make you say, "Aw, sweet!". Click for the details...

DeVotchKa (pictured above) has been added, as has Toadies, and Iron & Wine. I am ecstatic that DeVotchKa has been brought into the fold, and our feature with the band is airing on our Tuesday, May 13th episode. If you catch this blog after that date, no worries...just look for it on the right side in the video player. Never before has a group combined rock with polka, mariachi, Slavic, Greek and any other style you can name into a pop music setting. DO NOT miss them if you're attending Lollapalooza.
Now, for Toadies? Yeah, I was surprised, too. Who even noticed that they broke up in 2001? Even less noticed that they reunited in 2006. But now, their first studio record in 7 years will surface on August 19th, entitled 'No Deliverance'.
As for Iron & Wine, I can't wait. I missed the last performance in town, and the latest Iron & Wine record, called 'The Shepherd's Dog' was one of the best of '07 in my opinion. The group really is the work of one guy, Samuel Beam, and is worth catching. After spots on the 'Garden State' soundtrack, and an acclaimed collaboration with Calexico, this group is poised for even bigger things.

As for the other 13 acts named to the Lolla roster, they include: Saul Williams (good stuff), Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, Wild Sweet Orange, The Enemy, Tiny Masters Of Today (make it a point to catch them), Suzy Brack and the New Del Lords, The Jimmies, Peter DiStefano & Tor, Homemade Jamz, The Terrible Two's, The Q Brothers, The Dream Jam Band, and Paul Green's School Of Rock.

What's more, the organizers have announced a festival t-shirt design competition. They challenge anyone to come up with a creation that is based on the true meaning of Lollapalooza. What's that? Well, according to them, it's a "remarkable or wonderful person or thing". Vague enough? All the info on that is found here:

Up for grabs is a 3-day pass, cash, schwag, and more. Good luck.

Woohoo!! I love Devotchka! They were great at ACL last year. They'll bring the perfect romantic swing to Lolla this summer!
