SARS Hits American Idol! Marcus's Girls Night 1 Recap!

american%20idol%20sars%20logo.jpg

It’s back to the 1960’s. I think I’ve heard enough “Happy Together” for one lifetime. The Top 12 girls got their first chance to sing on American Idol last night. And despite the outbreak of SARS that’s spreading around the cast, the show wasn’t half bad! Read my thoughts, winners and losers after the jump…..

THOUGHTS

1. DOG, RANDY’S WATCH IS HUGE! These are the things I think about while looking for the remote to skip through these long intros. The show is 2 hours long, 12 contestants sing for 2 minutes each. That’s a lot of filler. But man, that watch has to set him back at least 10K.

2. KRISTY LEE COOK NEEDS TO SING “AMAZING GRACE” EVERY WEEK.
For good measure, sing it on a horse. Judging from what I’ve seen on the show those are the only two things she does well.

3. BRUNETTE AMY DAVIS IS STILL……SINGING……THAT….TERRIBLY…SLOW….SONG….ON…..A….STAGE…..SOMEWHERE. Don’t know what song it was and I don’t care. It was long, boring, and just plain dreadful. Congratulations Amy Davis – you have officially turned me into Simon Cowell. But getting back to her performance, there is another point I want to make…

4. PEOPLE WHO WAVE THEIR ARMS IN THE AIR DURING SLOW SONGS DON’T DESERVE TO HAVE ARMS. I’m talking about the audience, here. If you are one of these people, please consider donating your arms to someone who will know how to use them. They are for walking, grabbing things, and shaking hands. Not swaying slowly in the air to the beat of a terrible song.

5. THE BLONDE HAIRED NANNY PLAYED BY BROOKE WHITE LOOKS LIKE CATHERINE KEENER. Just saying.

6. YOU KNOW YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WHEN THE JUDGE’S FIRST COMMENTS ARE ABOUT YOUR “GREAT BRITNEY SPEARS IMPRESSION.” That’s what happened with Kady Malloy, who does an outstanding job at mimicking the pop star and showed it off in her intro last night. I have some advice – all Britney, all the time. At the finale she can shave her head and check herself into Promises. I hope Kady’s Dad isn’t busy these days.

WINNERS:

1. Alexandrea “Don’t Dare Mispronounce My Name” Lushington. This girl has some spunk to her. I bet a lot will hate her after showing off her sass at the end last night. I think it’s great and makes outstanding television. Plus, Ryan loved her shoes. Awkward.

2. Asia’h “Heat of the Moment” Epperson. She WAS the heat of the moment last night. And yes, I do have an Asia poster in my bedroom. And I’m proud of it.

LOSERS:

1. Amy “I’m Still Singing” Davis. See comments above. She was terrible.

2. Kady “OOPS, I Did It Again” Malloy. America is suffering from Britney fatigue these days, so I don’t think her good impression is enough to keep her around.

Until next week folks! Leshock….out!

tajalude:

I googled "Brooke White looks like Catherine Keener" and OMG yes she most certainly does.

I think we could all sound like that with all the effects they had on the vocal. Her comeback is slightly creepy to me.

I think MX should look into the recent claims of Idol lip-synching for the whole Itunes deal.

Marcus:

Good comments Zoner. I can't remember an Idol season they didn't bill as "the best talent ever!" I think they're just trying to sell the show. On another note, if I ever say "tonight's metromix is the best episode ever," I really mean it. I would never lie to you Zoner.

But back to Idol, I think the guys' side is better than it has been in years past. And there are only a few standouts on the ladies' front. And yes, Simon IS the show. The day he leaves is the day it dies.

Quick thought: Did anybody see that Paul Abdul video last night? How about Randy Jackson playing the bass? Was there really bass guitar in that awful song? I certainly didn't hear it. Ouch.

Most of this year's contestants seem utterly devoid of a performer's personality. Yet they keep billing that as the best top 24 ever. Is the Bush administration writing their copy?

There's maybe a handful that have the "it" factor.

One thing is for sure: Simon rules.
