If you saw "metromix" tonight, you saw me try and scarf down the most ridiculously over-the-top hot wings EVER! They're that hot. After the jump you'll find more of my thoughts on the wings, and more info about Jake Melnick's itself! So continue reading....
So these wings at Jake Melnick's are something else. You take a bite into them and you can taste a lot of the zesty flavor.....but then the rush! I could only eat one wing, which left a searing hotness in my mouth for at least 10 minutes. I can't lie and say it's worth the 8.95, but if you're out with a group of friends and you're feeling brave, they're certainly worth splitting. Just to see how much you can handle...and to see how goofy your friends look in a fireman's hat on the Wall of Fame.
I have to say that Robin Rosenberg, the Chef de Cuisine, told me a story about a guy who came in and threw down an entire order of wings himself. He then asked the waitress to bring another one! By the time he got to the very last wing left, he rang the bell. Unbelievable. Fine gentleman, wherever you are, I bow in admiration to your glory.
You can find Jake Melnick's Corner Tap at 41 E. Superior, it's just east of State before Michigan. Click here to visit their website. They have a lot of other typical bar food on the menu. I had a brat and fries afterwards that was hanging out of the bun, loaded with grilled onions. Delish.
Just a word of advice, don't book a CrossFit shoot right after your trip to Jake Melnick's. Trying to do a Kipping Pull-up with a stomach full of sauce from the pits of hell? Not a very good plan. But if you have gone to Jake's, braved the wings, and lived to speak of it, please leave a comment and let me know!

I first heard about this place on TV. It attracted me because I heard that it had really hot wings. I had the hot and my girlfriend had the mild. Apparantly the chef gets his special ingredients as extracts that are in concentrated form. Apparantly he has to get special government clearance to buy the spices because they are so hot. On TV they said something like a few drops is enough to dilute into 16 gallons of wing sauce. I have lived in London and have tried the hottest there, while this is probably THE hottest thing i've ever ate. What is cool is that they give you a bell at your table. If it gets too hot, a waiter will deliver you a dish that includes several things with capsaisin. (sp) Its definitely a memorable place for a hot food lover and I will go again.
