While barhopping all around town last Saturday night, I realized that I don’t get carded anymore! Back in my college days, getting through bar doors and lame velvet ropes scot-free would have been a blessing, but now that I’m approaching 26 (when! did! that! happen!) I kinda miss the look of suspicion you get from bouncers when you're 19 or 20 and clearly too young to be sipping vodka sodas bought for you by 32-year-old men.
I miss that nervous feeling you get when you step up to the bouncer, hand over your license and just wait to see what he’ll say. You know, the slight eyebrow lift, the subtle chin scratching, and most importantly, the seemingly never-ending moment of silence as the bouncer inspects your I.D., glances down to study you, and then back up for a second look.
I don’t think I look super-matronly, but I guess I don’t appear to be Tanya Teenybopper anymore, either. Boo! Truth be told, I’m not sure if this “no carding” situation is a good thing or a sad reality of being a true grown up…
Are there any women out there who feel slightly offended or bummed that they’re no longer carded?
