She Wants Revenge, Electric Six & more...
Pogo sifts through the piles of new music releases and weighs in on the best ones for the week..
More after the jump...
SHE WANTS REVENGE – “THIS IS FOREVER”
She Wants Revenge managed to pull themselves out of the sea of thousands of Los Angeles bands, scoring themselves a fair bit of commercial success with their self-titled debut from last year, which sported the radio hit “Tear You Apart”. Perhaps you caught their set at Lollapalooza ’06, and this 2nd record provides more of the darkwave sounds that made them popular. Look for them to play the Metro on the 15th.

ELECTRIC SIX – “I SHALL EXTERMINATE EVERYTHING AROUND ME THAT RESTRICTS ME FROM BEING THE MASTER”
Yes, that IS the title of their 4th record. But if you’re at all familiar with Detroit’s Electric Six, then it should be no surprise at all. In fact, it’s just the sort of wonderfully twisted phrasing that would indeed escape the lips of frontman Dick Valentine (his stage name is Dick Valentine, for crying out loud) in either a song lyric or an interview soundbite. Feet aren’t kept still when E6 is on, and if you’re looking for a more rockin’, raunchier version of Scissor Sisters, check out Electric Six, and DO see them live.

BAND OF HORSES – “CEASE TO BEGIN”
Band Of Horses (from Seattle, now based in South Carolina) became indie rock darlings with their 2006 debut “Everything All The Time”. The group was formed by 2 multi-instrumentalists, churning out hook-filled mid-tempo rock, with soaring vocals. Fans might have gotten scared when founding member Mat Brooke departed before the recording of this album, but it sounds to me like the rest of the band picked the slack right up. Try not to miss them Nov. 12th @ the Metro.

ENON – “GRASS GEYSERS...CARBON CLOUDS”
If you’re ever at a bar with no jukebox, and they’re playing something fun and groovy, and you think to yourself, “Well now, what in the world is this??”...it very well could be a band like Enon. From Brooklyn by way of Philly, Enon mixes electro/rock/pop and whatever else into their sound, tough they turn the rock up a bit on this one. It’s their 4th album, and look for them at the Abbey Pub on Oct. 26th/27th.

JENS LEKMAN – “NIGHT FALLS OVER KORTEDALA”
In much the same way Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie does in America, Jens Lekman lyrically breaks hearts in his native Sweden. Songs on this one go between indie pop, soul, sample-heavy laptop pop, and even all-out crooning. It’s a great listen. The title (and overall themes of the tracks) represents a farewell/kiss-off to his home: the drab suburban area of Gothenburg, Sweden known as Kortedala.
