Hey folks..it’s a light one this week…but stay tuned, as next week will be much more loaded, with music from the likes of Dave Gahan (frontman of Depeche Mode), Ween, and Coheed And Cambria. In the meantime, though, here’s the couple of notables for this week:
A breakdown after the jump...
THE CAKE SALE – “CAKE SALE”
The Cake Sale is a collective of Irish artists who initially released this record for charity..and now, nearly a year later, it’s available in N. America. It’s mostly mellow, melodic stuff..probably something for fans of Keane or Travis. Nina Persson, vocalist for Swedish group The Cardigans (remember the song “Lovefool”?) appears on the track “Black Winged Bird”.

MARITIME – “HERESY AND THE HOTEL CHOIR”
This is the 3rd record from a band that rose out of the ashes of former emo trailblazers The Promise Ring and The Dismemberment Plan. If you were a fan of those groups, you’ll likely fall right in with Maritime..and on this record, the songs on which they reel in the tempo just a bit seem to be the high points.

R.E.M. – “LIVE”
Yes, R.E.M. shows have been the subjects of a couple of concert films, but this (believe it or not) is the first ever R.E.M. live CD/DVD release. And here’s this week’s 2nd mention of Dublin..the show at which “Live” was recorded, took place at Dublin’s Point Theatre on Feb. 27th 2005. There are 22 tracks, with both obvious and adventurous selections. You’ll get “Orange Crush”, “Drive”, “(Don’t Go Back To) Rockville”, “Losing My Religion”, “The One I Love”, and more
