On nice days, when we're out walking the dog in our neighborhood, my husband and I like to check out the open houses of homes that look particularly impressive from the outside. It's kind of a guilty pleasure, because while we don't take up much of the realtor's time, we really don't go in with the intention to buy - we already have a home we love. But there's something about wandering through other people's homes that spurs creativity and gets you thinking of ideas for your own home. So, when I had the chance to check out a four story, 4,500 square foot home in Hinsdale last week, well let's just say I was eager to get to work!
More after the jump...
First, the basics: The home is a 5 bedroom, 5 1/2 bath beauty with four fireplaces, a four-seasons room, two family rooms and a knockout home office. There also happen to be two mud rooms - one with a stackable washer/dryer combo for those items that are too dirty to even make it past the front door (there is also a side-by-side washer and dryer on the 2nd level) and the other with adorable bins and hooks reminicent of a school house coat room.
So, yes, the basics were impressive. But the crown jewel of this charming home is tucked away in the lower level. It's a 2,000 bottle, fully climate-controlled wine cellar, clearly built by someone with a passion for the grape. This little gem is enough to turn anyone into a connoisseur.
And it was more than enough to inspire me to pull out the measuring tape and see where in the world I could find space in my city condo for a wine cellar of my own...
If this house sounds like it could be your next home or if you're just curious to see what $1.9 million can get you in Hinsdale, take a look!
