Green Scene: Blackout, warm in

It's been a rough winter so far and it's only January. Not to be Debbie Downer, but I don't think I'm telling you anything you haven't already figured out for yourself - we have a long couple of months ahead of us! As each new sub-zero spell sets in, we're all looking for better ways to stay warm - without breaking the bank. One simple way to keep the heat in on those frigid nights is with blackout curtains.

More info after the jump...

Blackout curtains have a great rep with 3rd shifters and college kids to keep the sunlight out - but did you know that because they are so thick, they can also act as a great (and cheap) barrier between your nice, warm room and the biting cold happening outside your window? Just remember to keep them open during the daytime to let the sunlight in to naturally heat your home. But at sunset, close those babies up to keep the warm air in and help keep that nasty chill out.

Bonus: in the summer months they'll save you some money on a/c if you keep them closed to block sunlight during the day.
